How do you “Show, Don’t Tell”?

Use your five senses
Picture it in your mind…Make a movie in your mind and then write down what you see!
Include the character’s reactions
Add specific “just right” details
Use GOLDEN details whenever possible
Relate to the reader
Make your words flow
Explain/describe the character
Describe things in UNIQUE ways
Maintain focus, stay on topic
Use a thesaurus
Describe the character’s surroundings (SETTING)
Describe what the character is doing (ACTION)
Describe what the character is thinking (THOUGHTS)
Add dialogue (TALKING)
Vivid language
Make the reader feel like they are there
Paint a picture in the reader’s mind
Research your topic
Give clues…Make the reader figure it out!
Use ACTION verbs whenever possible
